So who are we? Laning4Fun has been set up by a group of friends who have got together from a number of backgrounds to share in the fun of green laning. Some of us come from other club backgrounds such as landrover or off road clubs, some of us from long standing personal interests, and some because we caught the bug form friends! Why create Laning4Fun? The best thing about a group of people with different experiences is that you can pool the good bits and hopefully make something even better. Having talked about the "What if's" and discussed the "Wouldn't it be great's" we got together to promote safe, legal green laning and have some fun organising laning and social events. What do we offer? Well we're more than vehicle fan club, although without them we'd just be ramblers! We feel that because of that we can focus on the laning and encourage the use of these historic rights of way to help people enjoy the countryside. We are creating a resource for anyone who wants to make the most of their 4x4 and use it to enjoy the countryside. We can do this by offering advice and information, organising events, offering the opportunity to learn to navigate, and providing the chance to get involved. What can you expect? The answer's in the name: Fun! We want everyone to enjoy themselves, safely, so we will arrange laning trips which suit you and your vehicle. All our routes are pre planned to ensure legality and passabilty. We plan to get most of the road work done on the way to and from the laning route. When laning we follow the commonly agreed code of laning and divide into suitably sized groups, spaced a reasonable time apart out of respect for other users of the rights of way. We normally have a break in the morning for a drink ans a rest, then meet up for lunch around mid day at a convenient point, then have a break again in the afternoon. Of course, if anyone needs to make a pit stop we try and accomodate this as best we can! Just a couple of other things to mention that you can expect on a trip, gates and mud! They are both related because when you get out of your vehicle to open one of them you'll almost certainly find the other! We recommend waterproof footware with a good grip, and even with a dry forcast it's always wise to pack some waterproofs. Lunch if often self catered and we eat 'Al Fresco' whilst enjoying the views, but when the route allows we also look for alternatives such as 4x4 friendly pubs or cafe's. It's important to make sure you have plenty to drink for the day. Of course this also means you need be prepared for the consequences which can be equally "Au naturel" depending on the route! Why come with us? We have folks with lots of experience of laning and off roading, some with instructor qualifications. While we never expect to need them we also have qualified first aiders. With people who have backgrounds in mechanics and electrics we can also offer advice and help on vehicle issues, including modifications and useful toys! We can also arrange opportunities to learn related skills like winching, navigating on paper maps and with GPS, and first aid. |
